Early Life and Musical Influences

Nara Leão was a Brazilian singer and "muse of Bossa Nova." She was not only considered an interpreter of Bossa Nova, but also one of the first Brazilian singers of protest songs.

When Nara was only one year old, she moved to Rio de Janeiro with her parents, Jair and Altina Leão, and her sister Danuza. In her teenage years, she learned to play the guitar from Solon Ayala and Patricio Teixeira, and later from Roberto Menescal and Carlos Lyra.
