Ginger Rogers, born Virginia Katherine McMath, was an American actress, dancer, and singer.
She was born on July 16, 1911, in Independence, Missouri. After her parents divorced, Rogers' mother moved her to Kansas City to live with her grandparents while she pursued a career as a screenwriter in Hollywood. When Rogers was nine, her mother married John Logan Rogers, and it was his surname that became the basis for her stage name.
